Multi-Packer Piezometer System (MPPiS)
The MPPiS was specially developed for buoyancy measurements of gravity dams.
Advantages of the MPPiS compared to conventional multi-level piezometers
- The filling of the annulus with cement-bentonite suspension and filter gravel is not required.
- The position of the observation intervals is precisely defined by the packers and can be subsequently changed, in contrast to the filling of the annulus with cement-bentonite suspension and filter gravel.
- The MPPiS is retrievable. Therefore, the sintering in the filter area occurring over time can be removed by replacing the filter unit, thus extending the service life and functionality of the measuring unit by decades.
- The MPPiS requires smaller borehole diameters than the conventional method, as the piezometer tubes do not need a minimum spacing to properly isolate the observation intervals. Up to 3 piezometer tubes can be installed in a 101 mm borehole.
The use of the multi-packer piezometer system requires stable boreholes.
