Plate load tests

Plate load tests are used to determine the rock deformability for construction work in bedrocks. Large load plates are used which cover several fracture systems for representative test results in fractured rock. If possible, the opposite tunnel side is used as abutment of the test plate. In this way, double plate load tests can additionally be performed.

In addition to the measurement and control of the load on the plates, displacement transducers are installed which measure the displacement of the two load plates independently from each other. Furthermore, borehole extensometers are emplaced to measure the displacements behind the load plates in the bedrock. The tests are carried out according to the DGEG recommendation no. 6 or according to the ISRM recommendation.
